Luke & Mom & Team Lisa Thank YOU!

This message is a very special THANK YOU to everyone who supported Luke, his mom, and TEAM LISA for the 2009 Komen NYC Race for the Cure! Luke and Mom are thrilled that they reached their $2000.00 fund raising goal, and are keeping their fingers crossed for Team Lisa to hit $15,000 before the October 31st deadline. We had an amazing day in Central Park with fantastic weather, Cyndi Lauper, and the handsome handsome, even more handsome in person Maurice Dubois. So even more thank yous to all who donated for helping to make it a fantastically celebratory day for our team!

How good looking is our team? Especially the beauties in pink survivor shirts! This year, Luke was thrilled to be officially dubbed the team mascot. Looks like there are lots more Races in his future!

Luke was careful to hydrate adequately before the Race began.

These pictures go out to Luke's Great Uncle Joe - the Harley lads & ladies always come to cheer us on as we start the race. Yay!

They even had a pink bike!

I guess all of that hydrating and riding is hard work....Luke didn't make it through even 1k of the 5k course!

But he was sure to wake up for a photo op with Auntie Lisa

And you KNOW he wouldn't sleep through brunch!

Look out, Aunt Sharren, Luke has a new best Auntie friend in Lisa. Here, he gets her digits so he can blow up her celly later.

And he gave her a little snuggle (because Auntie Lisa is a softie and let him out of his high chair!)

Time to go home! Another fantastic Race for the Cure in the books (but it's not too late to give)!

Overall, Luke rated this day a FIST BUMP!

It's Race Time again, and Luke and his mom are going to run breast cancer out of town for the second year in a row! On September 13th, we'll join TEAM LISA for the Komen NYC Race for the Cure. Last year, Team Lisa earned $12,000 for Komen, and LuketheBoy fans (hey, that's you!) were a big part of Luke and his Mom contributing over $2000 toward our team's total. This year, our team has an ambitious $15,000 goal and this is our request for you to help us again!

WHY DO WE RACE?

• Because breast cancer knows no boundary be it age, gender, socioeconomic status, or geographic location
• Because the greatest risk factors for getting breast cancer are being female and getting older
• Because one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
• We race because it makes a real difference - just look at the number of survivors at the Race every year; they are a testament to our success. Together we can realize our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever

Most of all, Luke and I race because we love Auntie Lisa and are grateful to have her in our lives.

Mom & Luke Ran Breast Cancer Out of Town!

As many of you know, Luke and Mom participated in the Komen Greater New York City Race for the Cure last month. We were honored and thrilled to walk on Luke's Auntie Lisa's team, Team Lisa, and we were even more thrilled to have raised $1250 thanks to the generosity of our friends and family. What's more, our $1250 is just a part of what Team Lisa has raised - as of today, we have received over $11,800 in donations!

We had a great day - despite the crazy heat & humidity in Central Park. Paige & Lisa's friend, Katie, came all the way from Seattle to walk with us, and Luke finally got to thank Katie in person for all of the great hand-me-downs she's sent our way after E-train's outgrown them!

Luke really wanted to fit in on race day, and since Komen doesn't offer "onesies" as an option for team members, Dad designed a special one just for Luke.

As you can see, he looks quite handsome in it!
Mom & Luke got suited up in their team gear and got ready to walk! (er, and ride...)

When Dad dropped Mom, Luke, and Katie off in Central Park, Luke was busy taking it all in, and also preparing to spend 4.5 of the 5k race napping!
He did manage to stay awake long enough to see Auntie Lisa & her niece, Lauren arrive. Doesn't Lisa look great in her pink survivor's shirt?
Team Lisa had three pre-teen members who immediately joined the Luke Fan Club. Below you can see his adoring public marveling at his tiny feet, toes, and pale, soft skin. Luke repaid them with lots of smiles and giggles before settling in to his nap.
....aaaand two hours later we were done!
Sadly, the only photographic evidence we have of Katie's visit is here, she's the one taking the picture of Lisa and her sister, Amy, at the finish line. Hi Katie!
After the Race, a bunch of us went to Ocean Grill for a celebratory brunch. Luke honored the occasion by sitting in a highchair for the first time!
Finally, the race and brunch were done and Dad picked Mom & Luke up brought us back to Hoboken. Luke had a great day, but he really needed a nap!
