Spooky Lukey 2010

So we knew that his costume (or, in his parlance, "cos-t-yoooom") fit "jussst right," and we and school had spent the last week in October talking up all of the fun of Halloween in Hoboken. School "Fall Festival!" Hoboken Ragamuffin Parade! Trick or treating! Pumpkin carving! He was prepped & ready for the big weekend. (and Dad was hoping to catch a glimpse of NBC's Natalie Morales)

On Friday AM, Luke was dressed and ready for school in record time. Just before leaving the apartment, he decided that he needed his "Dalmatian Dog" to complete his ensemble. It was his last dash of whimsy, I guess

On Saturday he took his costume for a brief spin, driving the "fire truck" (our sofa), and then running a quick errand with Daddy. He then put his costume away "to keep it nice and neat" for Sunday

On Sunday afternoon, we headed out for Hoboken's Ragamuffin Parade - think he was excited? While there were several firemen to be seen, no others had their trusty dog, Dalmatian Dog, with them

After weeks of talking about going to see the fire house in his costume and showing them his jacket, and his boots, and his hat, and his pa-yants, when we got there he was so excited he could barely react....

...let alone interact with this kind, patient fireman who took the time to try to coax a smile from Sphinxy (note the matching jackets)

"He didn't like parades just passing by him...." so he busted a move to the music from one of the floats

Mom introduced him to her favorite candy, Reese's peanut butter cups, being sure to teach him to smell it before eating it (because the smell is MAGICAL)

Dalmatian Dog held his hat

On Sunday night, Daddy took Luke out trick or treating to HoBOOken's spookiest 4 square blocks - check out the giant spiderweb! Luke came home and told Mommy, "I was a little scared, but it was just pretend"

After trick or treating, Luke & Daddy got down to pumpkin carving (Luke had requested a "happy pumpkin"). [the hat was his newborn hospital cap that was uncovered in the cleaning efforts for new baby sister that are underway. He looks Amish, no?]

This time it's Daddy making him smell something. The yardstick, you ask? Why it's his guitar slung on his back (or tucked into his pants' waistband)

Behold! The happy pumpkin!

Last Saturday

Luke had quite a full day last Saturday.

We kicked the day off by playing his new favorite game, "Spoooooky Luuuuukey." We need to capture this on video - the picture doesn't do his "spooooookiness" justice.

Our little ham has also sorted out what the camera is about. Here he is saying "CHEEEEESE!"

Then he made Daddy take a picture of him with MOMMY saying "cheese." (he was emphatic about this)

Then he & Daddy need to take pictures of their toes?

Then! After naptime, we headed North to Uncle Charlie and Aunt Sharren's house - where he reacquainted himself with their youngest and friendliest kitty, Fig. Look at that gentle petting!

Then he and Uncle Charlie went fishing for Figs.

Look at that cast! We hope Grandpap approves.

But mostly, Luke was excited to spend time with his favorite Auntie, Aunt Sharrrrrrrren.

Choo Choo Too Too

By complete coincidence after the last post, and by dint of some cool hand-me-down overalls from the Jacob & Ronan Collection, Luke was a train engineer for Halloween. For the total of 3 minutes he wore the hat (thanks, Steamtown gift shop!)

On Friday evening, we went to a little party thrown by our apartment complex. Luke was a little overwhelmed by it all, and I don't think he's quite grasped the concept of Halloween. He got a little water out of it, though. He made repeated requests to "sit" and to have "water"

Mostly, though, he started at the big kids running around

He did take time to prove that he's not afraid of some stupid sparkly skeleton. Paul showed it to him, and he immediately kissed it. (he's weird)

On Saturday, even though it fell right at nap time, we took Luke to Hoboken's annual Ragamuffin Parade. Before the parade got underway, he and Dad got to take a close look at one of Hoboken Engine 1's cool fire engines!

Poke!

Mostly, though, he seemed to find it all a bit overrated

Once the parade got underway, he again took a strict spectator role.

And rejected his hat time and again

What we did find out is that we should have conceived a costume that involved Mom's winter gloves and Ezra Jack Keats' Peter's Chair. He spent the better part of Friday evening and Saturday morning wearing the gloves and carrying the book around, announcing his readiness to "GO"

And he was very serious about it

And even resisted photos

Again with the seriousness

And here he is yelling at Mom to "GO OUT"

And he tried to jump start the out-going

But mostly, he was a sweet guy in a funny outfit

Spooky Lukey!

Dad can't resist a deal, and Mom can't resist adorable outfits. When these glow-in-the-dark skeleton PJs were on sale at BabyGap, everybody won! Luckily, Luke wasn't the only baby dressed in Halloween finery, but he certainly was the most handsome (in our humble opinion).

Here, Luke shows the flirty kind of look that makes the ladies at daycare go wild:
Then he tried to scare mom with some spoooooky ooga booga moves:And after that he went plain old oogly boogly:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
