TEAM LISA Races for the Cure Again in 2010!

Thursday, September 30th is FIGHT BREAST CANCER DAY. In celebration of that day, a recap of Team Lisa's 2010 Race for the Cure! Huge, gigantic thanks are due to all of you who donated and got us past our $2000 goal - and allowed us to go for $2500. Luke and Mommy are very lucky to have such amazing friends and family who support us every year. This year, however, marked the first year we had a limited time "matching grant" from the best friends ever!

As loyal readers know, Luke and Mommy spend the second Sunday of every September doing the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure with TEAM LISA. So on September 12, 2010 we suited up (phew! Mom fit into her size L t-shirt!), grabbed Daddy, and headed for Central Park with tens of thousands of supporters, activists, and SURVIVORS (look at all of those pink t-shirts!)!

Luke & Mommy Race for Cure Again in 2010!

In less than one week from today, on September 12, 2010, Luke and Mommy will join TEAM LISA and thousands of others for the annual Komen New York City Race for the Cure® for the third time. As the world’s leading breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is committed to ending breast cancer forever. By making a donation on our behalf, you are supporting local breast cancer screening, treatment, education and outreach along with national peer-reviewed research programs that will lead us to a world without breast cancer.

WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?

Komen Greater NYC has a multi-pronged approach to fighting breast cancer:

• It addresses the community breast health needs of underserved populations in metropolitan New York
• It supports essential local education, screening and treatment programs
• It invests in crucial peer-reviewed research programs being conducted locally and nationally
• UP TO 75% of the net revenue is used to support local breast health programs and at least 25 percent funds peer-reviewed national and local clinical research

Last year, Luke & I raised over $2000 for Team Lisa thanks to so many of you. Team Lisa raised over $12,000. This year, we want to match last year, and our goal is $2000 once again. This message is a very special THANK YOU to everyone who supported Luke, his mom, and TEAM LISA for the 2009 Komen NYC Race for the Cure! Luke and Mom are thrilled that they reached their $2000.00 fund raising goal, and are keeping their fingers crossed for Team Lisa to hit $15,000 before the October 31st deadline. We had an amazing day in Central Park with fantastic weather, Cyndi Lauper, and the handsome handsome, even more handsome in person Maurice Dubois. So even more thank yous to all who donated for helping to make it a fantastically celebratory day for our team!

How good looking is our team? Especially the beauties in pink survivor shirts! This year, Luke was thrilled to be officially dubbed the team mascot. Looks like there are lots more Races in his future!

Luke was careful to hydrate adequately before the Race began.

These pictures go out to Luke's Great Uncle Joe - the Harley lads & ladies always come to cheer us on as we start the race. Yay!

Luke and I are just about 1/2 way to our $2000 fund raising goal for this year's race. Team Lisa has an even more ambitious goal of $15,000, and we're a little more than 1/3 of the way there. We know this year is a financial challenge all around, but there are NO MINIMUM DONATIONS and all donations are appreciated! TEAM LISA Needs Your Support

**this is a rare instance of solicitation on Luke the Boy - but it's for a good cause!**


As many of you know, on Sunday, September 14, 2008, Luke & Paige will join Luke's Auntie Lisa and the rest of TEAM LISA 2008 for the Komen New York City Race for the Cure®.

We have just three weeks to go until the Race, and thanks to the generosity of our friends and family we are 84% of the way to our fundraising goal of $1000! Our team is 73% of the way to our $8000 goal. But we're not at 100% yet!

On race day 22,000 New Yorkers, including 1,500 breast cancer survivors - Auntie Lisa is one of them! - will come together to run breast cancer out of town.

One in eight women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2008, that's over 170,000 people. More than 40,000 will die.

Monies raised are used to fund education, screening, and treatment programs for underserved women in the NY metropolitan area, as well as for local and national peer-reviewed clinical research. Donations can be made through October 31st and are tax deductible.

Last year, Komen Greater NYC raised over $5.2 million, which allowed it to fund more than $3.8 million in grants and research. Team Lisa was a big part of this, earning Luke's Auntie Lisa a place on Komen's Honor Roll for the top 120 individual fund raisers. Luke and I want to help keep Team Lisa on that roll!
